The government has set a target of achieving $25 billion in IT exports within the next five years.
According to details, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on the affairs of the Ministry of IT, where measures to enhance IT exports and promote the digital economy were evaluated.
The participants expressed satisfaction with the steps taken to achieve the $25 billion IT export target within five years.
Officials briefed the meeting about plans to increase the number of freelancers from the current 1.4 million to 2 million in two years. The meeting was also informed that over 300,000 individuals would be trained through the digital skills program by June 2025.
Progress on the national AI policy was also reviewed during the meeting. Officials stated that consultations were ongoing and that the policy would be presented for approval next month.
Moreover, the Prime Minister directed authorities to simplify the right-of-way regulations further to facilitate the expansion of broadband services.
“Priority must be given to IT training for young people to secure employment opportunities abroad,” PM Shehbaz said.
The Prime Minister urged the formulation of a comprehensive strategy for the effective marketing of Pakistan’s IT sector.
“The IT infrastructure must be enhanced to increase national exports,” PM Shehbaz maintained.
