Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, in a significant decision, announced the provision of 10,000 subsidised tractors to farmers by February 28, along with an additional 2,000 super seeders to be distributed by March.
A high-level review meeting, chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, was conducted to evaluate the progress of the agriculture, energy, and industrial sectors over the past six months.
Officials provided updates on projects initiated under the chief minister’s directives.
The government resolved to expedite and expand the scheme to provide free solar energy to Punjab’s residents.
It was also decided to transition government buildings to solar energy and complete the renewable energy project by June.
A comprehensive programme was announced for the revival and enhancement of citrus fruits, such as oranges and kinnows. Plans for establishing modern agricultural markets in Punjab were also finalised.
Farmers will receive support to boost production and enhance exports, with an additional Rs6 billion allocated to promote solar energy initiatives.
The meeting mandated the creation of a “waste-to-energy” fund by March and reviewed the transition of the Punjab Assembly, Institute of Cardiology, and other departments to solar energy.
CM Maryam set a March deadline for completing Punjab’s “Garments Cities” project.
Discussing her vision, CM Maryam said, “Development in agriculture, energy, and industry driven by modern technology is my agenda. The dream of an agricultural and industrial revolution in Punjab is rapidly becoming a reality.”
Aurangzeb added that CM Maryam’s initiatives were bringing prosperity to Punjab and Pakistan, stating, “The welfare of farmers is the foundation of progress for both Punjab and the nation.”
