TPTI negotiation committee says talks with the government depend on the establishment of a judicial commission, with Imran Khan issuing guidelines from Adiala Jail
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) negotiation committee declared on Sunday that progress in talks with the government was contingent upon the formation of a judicial commission, as confirmed after a meeting with party founder Imran Khan.
The long-awaited meeting took place following the third round of stalled government-opposition talks. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur met with PTI founder for an hour and a half in a one-on-one session, while the rest of the committee members were kept in the administrative block.
Later, PTI founder held a one-hour meeting with the five committee members. Gandapur left immediately after, but the other members addressed the media.
Two members of the seven-member committee, Salman Akram Raja and Hamid Khan, did not attend the meeting as they had informed the committee the night before about their absence.
Sahibzada Hamid Raza Khan expressed dissatisfaction with the controlled meeting environment, saying, “We had detailed discussions with the party founder, but it was in a restricted setting.”
He said Imran Khan had emphasized the necessity of forming a neutral commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26, and that the commission should consist of the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court.
According to Raza, the committee informed the government of its readiness for the next round of talks. “The government must come prepared for the formation of a judicial commission. This is the first step, and negotiations cannot proceed without it,” he added.
He also said, “The ball is now in the government’s court. We have shown all possible flexibility, and the deadline remains January 31, as only the party founder has the authority to extend it.”
Raza claimed that Imran Khan had prioritized the release of PTI workers over his own freedom, with the demand coming from his supporters and the committee, not from him.
