Party Demands Neutral Commission After Meeting Imran Khan in ‘Controlled Environment’
After meeting PTI founder Imran Khan in a “controlled environment” at Adiala Jail, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders declared their willingness to participate in a third round of talks with the government to resolve political tensions.
Spokesperson Sahibzada Hamid Raza, flanked by Omar Ayub Khan and Asad Qaiser, called for a neutral judicial commission headed by a Supreme Court judge to investigate the May 9 and November 26 incidents.
The May 9 riots erupted after Khan’s arrest in a corruption case, leading to widespread unrest targeting military and civil installations. The military labeled the day as “Black Day,” and hundreds of PTI workers were detained. PTI alleges 13 fatalities and over 1,000 arrests during the protests, while the government denies using live ammunition.
Raza emphasized the release of political prisoners and the formation of a judicial commission as prerequisites for successful negotiations. He warned that the dialogue process would end if the government failed to act on these demands before the January 31 deadline.
The PTI team urged the government to ensure transparency by providing CCTV footage of the May 9 violence. Despite challenges, including weather-related delays, the meeting with Khan reaffirmed the party’s commitment to reasonable demands and practical solutions.
