Khawaja Asif Claims What Happened During PTI’s Government Was “Unprecedented”
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has expressed hope that “justice will prevail” in the high-profile £190 million case involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. The case is set to receive its judgment tomorrow.
Addressing a press conference in Sialkot, Asif said that while accusations had been made against previous rulers, what transpired during the PTI government’s tenure was “unprecedented.”
In discussing the £190 million settlement case, known as the Al-Qadir Trust case, Asif alleged that the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) had sent the settlement money to Pakistan, but former Prime Minister Khan allegedly used the funds to purchase land and establish the Al-Qadir Trust.
He urged national media to investigate whether Al-Qadir Trust was actually a university. “We hope that a verdict will be announced tomorrow and justice will be served,” he added.
The verdict, which was previously scheduled for January 6, will now be announced on January 12, after being deferred multiple times. Imran Khan and his wife, along with others, have been accused by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of causing a loss of £190 million to the national exchequer through a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon.
