Rescuers clear debris up to 3,600ft; efforts face delays
In Quetta’s Sanjidi area, four bodies have been recovered from a collapsed coal mine, while eight workers remain trapped as rescue teams continue their operations to save the miners.
The rescue teams, utilizing heavy machinery, have managed to clear debris up to 3,600 feet. However, delays occurred due to the laying of a second power line and ongoing debris removal efforts.
The mine collapsed following an explosion caused by the accumulation of gas. Authorities remain hopeful that the trapped miners will soon be reached.
A day earlier, Deputy Director of Rescue Asghar Jamali reported that the colliers were trapped at a depth of 4,000 feet. The presence of gas and debris within the mine has posed significant challenges for the rescuers, including teams from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
Mineral Resources and Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani has taken notice of the incident and ordered a comprehensive investigation.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind has assured a thorough probe into the collapse and warned that strict action will be taken against those found negligent.
