Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui States Afghan Taliban Government Has Been Invited
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai will attend an international summit on girls’ education hosted in her home country, Pakistan, where she was nearly killed by militants as a schoolgirl.
Yousafzai was evacuated from Pakistan in 2012 after being shot by the banned TTP for her activism and has returned to the country only a few times since.
A spokesperson for the Malala Fund charity confirmed that Yousafzai will appear in person at the summit, focusing on education in Islamic nations.
“I am excited to join Muslim leaders from around the world for a critical conference on girls’ education,” Yousafzai posted on X on Friday.
Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui mentioned that the Afghan Taliban government had been invited, although no response has been received from Afghan officials.
Afghanistan is the only country where girls and women are banned from attending school and university.
The summit, supported by the Saudi Arabia-based Muslim World League, will be held in Islamabad on Saturday and Sunday. It will feature ministers, ambassadors, religious scholars, and representatives from the UN and World Bank.
The event aims to demonstrate the Muslim community’s shared commitment to empowering girls through education.
