PTI initiated negotiations in national interest: Former Speaker
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Asad Qaiser has accused Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Maryam Nawaz and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif of attempting to sabotage the ongoing negotiations between the government and PTI.
In a video statement, Qaiser said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam and Defence Minister Asif are making every effort to disrupt the negotiation process.
He criticized the government for breaking its promise to arrange a meeting with the jailed PTI founder, saying the government is making excuses instead of fulfilling its commitment.
“PTI Seeks Rule of Constitution and Independent Judiciary”
The former National Assembly speaker reiterated that PTI remains committed to constitutional supremacy, judicial independence, civil supremacy, and a robust parliament.
Qaiser condemned Maryam’s recent remarks about the PTI founder, who she claimed was facing challenges due to “his own actions.”
Criticism Amid Negotiations
Defence Minister Asif also criticized the PTI founder for his social media post warning the government to remain serious about the negotiations or face their discontinuation. Asif labeled the post as evidence of PTI’s insincerity in the dialogue process.
Despite the two sides engaging in negotiations after months of political tension, the exchange of harsh statements has continued. The first two sessions were held on December 27, 2024, and January 2, 2025.
During the last meeting, it was decided that PTI would present its charter of demands after consulting its jailed leader before the third round of talks.
