Court hands death sentence to paramour Ghulam Nabi alias Deedar for the murder.
A Karachi court has sentenced Asma to life imprisonment for the 2019 murder of her husband, Shah Zaman, by strangulation and electrocution. Her accomplice, Ghulam Nabi alias Deedar, was given the death penalty.
The additional district and sessions judge (West) also ordered the convicts to pay Rs500,000 each to the legal heirs of the deceased.
The prosecution revealed that the convicts attempted to stage the crime as a suicide. However, the victim’s relatives noticed scars on his body and took it for a post-mortem, which confirmed the cause of death as strangulation and electric shocks.
The court noted that Asma confessed to her crime before a judicial magistrate and plotted the murder with Deedar. Statements from Zaman’s sons confirmed the relationship between the convicts and revealed that Asma had drugged her husband before the murder.
The court directed the respective jail authorities to enforce the penalties and submit proceedings to the Sindh High Court, stating that Deedar’s death sentence cannot be executed without confirmation from the SHC.
