Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has indicated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan could be relocated due to concerns over security or health.
In an interview on Thursday, the senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader explained that the decision to conduct Imran Khan’s trials within jail premises was made to ensure his safety.
He stated that bringing him to the complex where anti-terrorism or high courts are situated could be extremely dangerous, which is why no objections were raised to conducting his trials in jail.
Rana Sanaullah further noted that special arrangements could be made if security or health issues arise, but nothing of the sort has been discussed yet.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur confirmed that a meeting between the negotiation committee and Imran Khan is expected soon, which had been delayed due to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq being abroad.
Gandapur mentioned that individual meetings with the PTI founder are ongoing, and the committee’s work is nearing completion.
PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat advised both the government and PTI to exercise restraint, warning that inflammatory statements could derail the negotiation process.
He emphasized that even if the committee cannot meet Khan, they should continue their sessions to maintain the momentum of the talks.
After months of political tensions, the coalition government and PTI began negotiations last month, where PTI put forth two key demands: the release of all political prisoners and a judicial probe into the events of May 9 and November 26.
During the second round of talks, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, PTI’s negotiation team expressed the desire for frequent meetings with Imran Khan to finalize the “charter of demands.”
However, a stalemate persists between the two sides, and PTI has warned that negotiations may collapse if a judicial commission is not formed to investigate the events of May 9, 2023, and November 26.
