“How can someone who uses youth as political fuel sleep peacefully?” Punjab CM
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched a scathing attack on PTI founder Imran Khan on Wednesday, claiming that the former prime minister’s difficulties are the result of his own actions.
Addressing the “Honhaar Scholarship Programme” ceremony in Sargodha, Maryam stated, “How can a person who exploits youth as political fuel sleep peacefully?”
She urged students to never act against their country under any circumstances. “Anyone who incites you to vandalize and commit arson is not your friend,” she added.
Criticism of May 9 Events and Imran Khan
Referring to the May 9, 2023 events, Maryam accused Imran Khan of safeguarding his own children abroad while urging others to engage in chaos and destruction.
The May 9 protests followed Khan’s arrest, during which PTI workers caused significant damage to public and private property. These riots led to the deaths of eight people and injured many others, resulting in thousands of arrests.
Hassan Niazi and Military Court Verdicts
Maryam also criticized PTI founder’s nephew Hassan Niazi for mocking the military’s uniform, stating, “He was jailed for ten years… his future is ruined.”
Last month, military courts sentenced 60 more individuals, including Niazi, for their involvement in the May 9 riots, bringing the total number of convicted individuals to 85.
Maryam’s Arrest and Nation’s Progress
Highlighting what she described as “karma,” Maryam recalled her own arrest during the PTI regime in front of her father, Nawaz Sharif. “I was in Adiala Jail when I received news of my mother’s death.”
Concluding her remarks, she emphasized the importance of national development, stating that she would not have launched the scholarship program if her focus had been on “turning off someone’s air conditioner or heater.”
