Second convoy expected to reach Parachinar today as part of relief operation
HANGU: After days of being stranded in Tal, the first aid convoy has finally set off for Kurram to deliver relief goods to the residents of the crisis-hit Bagan area, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) dispatched 10 vehicles loaded with tents, mattresses, blankets, kitchen sets, and other essentials in the first phase.
Another convoy carrying food supplies also departed for Kurram to deliver relief goods to Parachinar.
Sources revealed that two to three additional convoys would be sent to Kurram within a week.
Insiders reported that the Peace Committee assured the government of the convoy’s safe passage and compensation for the Bagan residents’ losses. The committee also pledged to hand over those responsible for the attack on Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud.
Convoy Delays
Efforts to deliver essential supplies began on January 4, but the operation faced hurdles following an attack on Mehsud in Lower Kurram’s Bagan area and a sit-in by local tribes in Mandori.
Hangu Deputy Commissioner Gohar Zaman Wazir clarified that only vehicles carrying perishable goods were sent back, while most remained in position.
Lack of Medical Aid
Social activist Ali Jawad reported three more deaths of children due to illness, bringing the total fatalities during the blockade to 221, including 147 children.
Urgent Measures Needed
Member of the National Assembly Hamid Hussain urged authorities to immediately reopen the roads to alleviate the suffering of residents under siege for three months.
Meanwhile, protests erupted in Sadda, where shopkeepers demanded the release of Irshad Khan, a traders’ union leader, arrested for allegedly delivering fiery speeches.
