US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Monday that he plans to issue major pardons related to the 2021 Capitol attack when his supporters, fueled by false claims of election fraud, stormed the Capitol in an attempt to halt the certification of Joe Biden’s victory.
Trump also declined to rule out military or economic action in his efforts to regain control of the Panama Canal and acquire Greenland from Denmark.
Trump expressed his interest in turning Canada into a US state and criticized American spending on Canadian goods and military support for Canada.
He vowed to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, suggesting that it would be a “beautiful name” and also promised to impose significant tariffs on Mexico and Canada.
Trump reiterated his belief that NATO members should spend 5% of their GDP on defense, a significant increase from the current 2% target.
This press conference was Trump’s second since his victory in the November election, and it came one day after Congress formally certified his win.
The January 6 certification process was disrupted by Trump’s supporters who stormed the Capitol in a failed attempt to stop the certification of Biden’s victory.
