Jodie Foster won the 2025 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series for her performance in HBO’s True Detective: Night Country. Her portrayal marked another milestone in her illustrious career.
The fourth season of True Detective follows Foster’s character as she investigates the mysterious disappearance of eight men in a remote Alaskan town.
As Foster took the stage to deliver her acceptance speech, fellow nominee Sofia Vergara added a humorous touch to the night. “No, no! Give me one!” she shouted, referencing her fifth consecutive Golden Globe loss.
Foster responded graciously, saying, “The greatest thing about being this age and being in this time is having a community of all these people, especially you, Sofia,” which drew laughter and applause.
Vergara, who was nominated for her dramatic role in Netflix’s Griselda, viewed the nomination as a career milestone. Despite losing, she continued her lighthearted tradition of humorously addressing her near-wins.
After the announcement, Vergara shared a playful video captioned, “Me lo robaron” (They stole it from me), referring to her streak of close misses. Later, she posted another clip of herself eating a hamburger in her glamorous red gown, humorously stating, “I didn’t get an Emmy, but I got a hamburger.”
The friendly rivalry between Foster and Vergara has been building since 2024 when Foster’s Emmy win for True Detective overshadowed Vergara’s nomination for Griselda.
Reflecting on her role in Griselda, Vergara shared, “It was my first dramatic role ever, and it took us 15 years to bring her to life. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who was a part of this series.”
