SUKKUR: Sujawal Police on Friday announced the arrest of robbers who looted a foreign cycling couple, Poland nationals Kowalczyk Jakub Tomasz and Scantamburlo Marie Elisabeth, earlier this week.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sujawal, Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, stated during a press conference that the police utilized modern technology and intelligence gathering to apprehend the suspects, identified as Nadim Wiharo and Maqbool.
The suspects had intercepted the foreign tourists on the Badin bypass in Sujawal, stealing their mobile phones.
The incident, which occurred in Sindh’s Thatta district, involved the couple who had cycled through ten countries before arriving in Pakistan. They were reportedly robbed while visiting Makli Graveyard, a historical site with nearly half a million tombs.
Following the incident, the couple left for Hyderabad.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah condemned the event, stating it tarnished the country’s reputation and that such treatment of guests was unacceptable.
Taking notice, DIG Hyderabad suspended DIB in-charge Abdul Haq Bidar. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar also sought a report from the SSP and directed swift action against the culprits.
