10,000 Fewer Vehicles Stolen or Snatched in 2024

The year 2024 proved to be comparatively better for Karachi in terms of vehicle theft and snatching as 10,000 fewer vehicles were stolen or snatched than in 2023.
Data regarding stolen and snatched motorcycles revealed an interesting trend. Snatchers primarily targeted 125cc motorcycles, while thieves mostly preferred stealing 70cc bikes.
According to Shabbar Malik, Deputy Chief of Operations at the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), there was a notable decrease of 10,000 vehicles stolen or snatched in 2024.
CPLC records show that 28,561 motorcycles and cars were stolen or snatched in 2022. This figure slightly decreased to 28,087 in 2023. Astonishingly, the number dropped significantly to 18,213 in 2024, which is approximately 10,000 fewer than the previous two years.
The analytical report further revealed that 2,207 125cc motorcycles were snatched in 2024, while 8,515 70cc motorcycles were stolen. Additionally, 1,123 70cc motorcycles were snatched during the year. In coastal areas, robbers snatched 778 motorcycles of a specific 110cc category. Engines from 110cc motorcycles are utilized in boats, which are in high demand in the coastal regions of Balochistan.
