End of Protests in Karachi
Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has ended its protests in various areas of Karachi, as announced by party chairman Allama Raja Nasir Abbas late Wednesday night. He stated that an agreement has been reached between the rival tribes of Kurram, leading to the decision to end protests across the country.
Peace Accord in Kurram
A grand jirga has successfully mediated a peace accord in Kurram, where both warring tribes agreed to cooperate with the government. Under this agreement, both sides have consented to surrender their weapons to the government and dismantle all bunkers.
Sawab Khan, a member of the jirga, told Geo News that 45 members from each side signed the 14-point agreement. A committee will begin implementing the accord within 15 days.
Protests Continue in Parachinar
However, protests in Parachinar will continue until roads are reopened and essential supplies are restored. Shabbir Sajidi, president of MWM’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, announced that the sit-in will persist until normalcy returns to Parachinar.
Government Demands
MWM leaders have urged the government to ensure complete implementation of the Kurram peace agreement. They emphasized that tribal leaders have fulfilled their responsibilities, and now it is the government’s duty to ensure the safety and security of all parties involved.
Security Challenges
During MWM’s protests, citizens of Karachi complained about disruptions in daily life and severe impact on business activities. However, with the end of the protests, normal activities have started to resume in the city.
