Under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military), the Pakistan Army achieved significant milestones in 2024.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies conducted over 59,775 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) during the year. These operations targeted terrorists and their facilitators, resulting in the elimination of 925 militants, including key figures such as Fida-ul-Rehman alias Lal, Ali Rehman alias Taha Swati, and Abu Yahya.
Additionally, hundreds of arrests were made, with 73 most-wanted terrorists neutralized, and 14 militants surrendered to join the national mainstream.
According to official data, security forces conducted an average of 169 operations daily, averting several potential disasters, including intercepting two suicide bombers.
Clear Stance on Terrorism
General Munir maintained an unwavering stance against terrorism, especially regarding cross-border threats from Afghanistan. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding Pakistani lives and interests, expressing concerns over independent terrorist activities originating from Afghan soil.
Actions Against Other Crimes
The Pakistan Army also expanded its focus to combat illegal smuggling, electricity theft, extortion, and hoarding. These operations, conducted in collaboration with state institutions, significantly reduced such crimes. The Army Chief described these mafias as enablers of terrorism, justifying the stringent measures taken.
Diplomatic and Economic Achievements
In 2024, Pakistan made significant diplomatic strides, hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference. The event brought leaders from China, Russia, and other regional powers to Islamabad, with India’s Foreign Minister also attending, signaling diplomatic engagement despite strained relations.
Through effective military diplomacy, Pakistan voiced support for oppressed populations in Gaza, Lebanon, and Kashmir, gaining recognition at the United Nations. Strengthened ties with key nations boosted foreign investment, reduced inflation, and led to an unprecedented stock market surge.
Legislative Reforms and Information Integrity
New legislation was enacted in 2024 to curb fake news and misinformation, promoting responsible freedom of expression. General Munir underscored the harmful effects of unregulated narratives on societal values and called for robust measures to uphold integrity in public discourse.
General Asim Munir’s leadership has fostered hope for a stable and prosperous Pakistan. The achievements of 2024 set the stage for continued peace and stability in 2025.
