Protests disrupt city life as authorities appeal for resolution
Karachi has come to a standstill as sit-ins by Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) continue at 14 locations, causing severe traffic congestion and public frustration. The Sindh government has sought assistance from religious scholars to mediate and end the protests.
Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed stated that following the Kurram jirga’s decision, the ongoing protests in Karachi should be concluded. She emphasized the immense difficulties faced by citizens, including delays in ambulance services.
Protest Locations and Impact
The sit-ins are spread across major thoroughfares, including Numaish Chowrangi, Natha Khan Bridge, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Despite alternative routes being arranged, traffic flow remains heavily disrupted.
Dialogue Between Government and Protesters
Karachi Police Chief and Commissioner met with MWM leaders at the main protest site near Numaish, urging them to limit their demonstrations to a single location. MWM leader Hassan Zafar Naqvi assured the peaceful nature of the protests, stating they were held in solidarity with the oppressed.
Government Appeals for Public Relief
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab have urged protesters to consider the public’s suffering and avoid disrupting city life. The CM highlighted that blocking roads will not address the issues in Parachinar, the focal point of the protests.
