Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic plane crash at Muan International Airport in South Korea, which claimed the lives of 120 people.
In a statement issued on Sunday, PM Shehbaz extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and government of South Korea.
“I am deeply saddened to hear about the devastating plane crash at Muan Airport. The loss of precious lives in such a tragic accident is heart-wrenching. My sympathy and prayers are with the affected families and the Korean government during this difficult time,” he said.
The crash occurred at 9:03 am local time when a Jeju Air flight from Bangkok, Thailand, failed to deploy its landing gear while attempting to land at Muan International Airport.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft, carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, crash-landed on its belly, veered off the runway, struck a concrete fence, and erupted into flames.
The accident resulted in 120 fatalities, including 46 women and 39 men. Rescue teams recovered three survivors, but many others remain critically injured, raising fears of an increased death toll.
The Prime Minister also assured South Korean authorities of Pakistan’s full support during this difficult time. “I stand in solidarity with the people of South Korea and assure them of our full support in this moment of grief,” he said.
