This morning, a group of Khawarij militants, in coordination with the Afghan Taliban, attempted to infiltrate Pakistani territory in Kurram and North Waziristan using heavy weaponry. Pakistani forces successfully thwarted the attempt with a swift and decisive response.
According to sources, the group comprised 20–25 militants who launched an unprovoked attack on Pakistani posts. In retaliation, Pakistani forces neutralized over 15 attackers, including members of the Afghan Taliban, forcing them to abandon six border posts.
No fatalities were reported on the Pakistani side, though three security personnel sustained injuries.
This incident comes amidst rising terrorist attacks in Pakistan since the Taliban-led interim government assumed power in Kabul, particularly in KP and Balochistan provinces.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent its territory from being used for terrorist activities. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated in a recent cabinet meeting, “We desire good ties with Kabul, but the TTP must be stopped from killing our innocent people. This is our red line.”
In recent operations, Pakistani forces eliminated 13 terrorists in KP earlier this week. Reports from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) indicate a 90% increase in terrorist violence during the third quarter of 2024, with 722 fatalities and 615 injuries in 328 incidents.
To date in 2024, the military has reported 383 soldiers and 925 militants killed in various clashes, reflecting the heightened intensity of counter-terrorism efforts.
