Punjab witnessed an unprecedented number of school closures in 2024 due to various reasons, including extreme weather conditions, pandemics, and administrative challenges.
According to the education department, numerous public and private schools remained closed for extended periods or operated intermittently throughout the year. Extreme weather, particularly heatwaves and dense fog, were among the primary causes of these closures.
Additionally, infrastructure issues and teacher shortages further disrupted the education process. Authorities have pledged reforms to address the educational losses, including enhancing online learning systems and strengthening school infrastructure.
Parents and education experts have urged the authorities to address this issue promptly to secure the educational future of children.
