The United Kingdom has expressed concern over the sentencing of 25 individuals by military courts in Pakistan, urging the government to uphold its international obligations. A spokesperson from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office stated that “military courts lack transparency, independent scrutiny, and undermine the right to a fair trial.” While respecting Pakistan’s sovereignty, the UK emphasized the importance of adhering to international standards. The European Union also expressed concerns, stating that these sentences are inconsistent with Pakistan’s international obligations. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also objected to the military court convictions.
