Former President Donald Trump has expressed his views on TikTok’s presence in the United States, suggesting that it might be beneficial for the application to remain in the U.S. for a while. He mentioned obtaining billions of views on TikTok during his campaign, which he described as a record. Trump stated that upon reviewing the chart, he thought they might need to keep the app around for a while. This statement comes after the U.S. Senate passed a law in April requiring TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest the application, citing national security concerns. If the U.S. Supreme Court does not rule in favor of ByteDance and no divestment occurs, TikTok could effectively be banned in the U.S. on January 19, the day before Trump takes office. Trump has also met with TikTok’s CEO and mentioned having a soft spot for TikTok due to his campaign’s success on the platform.
