The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has declared Kurram district as disaster-hit and imposed a relief emergency due to prolonged tribal clashes leading to severe shortages of essential supplies.
Key Measures:
- Provision of Medicines and Food: The government has delivered 10 tonnes of medicines via airborne service to the affected area, and wheat is being provided at concessional rates to ensure food availability.
- Helicopter Service: To address transportation issues, a helicopter service has been launched, transporting at least 220 people within two days.
- Road Restoration: Efforts are underway to reopen key roads; however, this depends on agreements between the tribal groups involved.
- Seizure of Illegal Weapons: The government has decided to confiscate illegal heavy weapons in the area and dismantle bunkers by February 1.
- Social Media Monitoring: A Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cell will be established to take action against social media accounts spreading sectarian hatred.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated that the people of Kurram desire peace and emphasized that the issue is a conflict between two groups, not terrorism. He accused certain elements of spreading sectarian hatred and misrepresenting the situation in Kurram.
