The United Nations has emphasized the importance of the judicial process in Syria, urging that the country needs justice, not revenge, following the ongoing conflict. The UN special envoy stated that the people of Syria deserve justice in order to achieve social cohesion and sustainable peace in the aftermath of the war.
He further added that promoting a politics of revenge would not only worsen the internal situation of the country but also damage Syria’s international reputation. The UN stressed the need for all parties to participate in the judicial process so that any abuses and human rights violations can be accounted for and addressed.
In this appeal, the United Nations also called on the international community to assist in the process of justice in Syria, to ensure that the victims of the conflict receive justice and that peace is established globally.
