Storm Darragh unleashed destruction across the United Kingdom, with wind speeds reaching up to 93 mph. Authorities have warned millions to stay indoors as the storm caused widespread power outages and severe travel disruptions. Train services were suspended, and large areas were left without electricity.
The UK’s Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for all 55 cities in England and also extended it to Wales. The storm also caused major disruptions at airports, with several flights facing difficult landings. According to the Energy Networks Association, 259,000 homes in England, Scotland, and Wales were without power.
The powerful winds uprooted trees and caused fences to collapse, resulting in accidents across the country. Tragically, a man was killed when a tree fell onto his vehicle in Preston. Authorities have urged the public to prepare for further disruptions, advising them to secure loose items around their homes and to keep essential supplies like torches and batteries handy in case of power outages.
