French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that he will appoint a new prime minister in the coming days. This announcement came a day after Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s government was toppled through a no-confidence motion. Barnier, a veteran conservative, served as the shortest-serving prime minister in modern French history, stepping down after just three months due to his fiscal policies.
Macron emphasized that the new prime minister’s priority will be to get the 2025 budget passed by Parliament. In his address, he also mentioned the need for a government that enjoys the support of various political parties to ensure stability.
The president made it clear that he did not consider himself responsible for the political crisis, attributing the situation to the formation of an “anti-republican front” by the far-right and left-wing parties against Barnier’s government.
