London: “Muhammad” has become the most popular baby boy name in the UK for the first time. According to the Office for National Statistics, 4,661 boys were named Muhammad in England and Wales in 2023, marking an increase from 2022. “Noah” is now the second most popular, while “Oliver” ranks third.
As for baby girl names, “Olivia” has remained the most popular for the eighth consecutive year, followed by “Amelia” and “Isla.” Geographically, Muhammad ranked first in four regions of England and was 63rd in Wales.
The name Muhammad, meaning “praiseworthy,” is widely used in Muslim-majority regions across the globe.
