Pakistan emerged victorious over arch-rivals India by 43 runs in their opening match of the U19 Asia Cup on Saturday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan, renowned for their potent bowling attack, once again showcased their strength, dismantling the Indian junior batting lineup while defending a target of 282 runs.
Ali Raza led Pakistan’s bowling charge, claiming three wickets. He was supported by Abdul Subhan and Faham-ul-Haq, who took two wickets each. Naveed Ahmed Khan also played a crucial role by dismissing Nikhil Kumar, the highest run-scorer for India, who had scored 67 runs with six fours and three sixes.
Pakistan’s opening batsman, Usman Khan, contributed with a solid 60 runs and played a part in the downfall of India’s Mohammad Aman. India was bowled out for 238 runs in the 48th over, handing Pakistan a well-earned win.
Earlier, Pakistan opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted a total of 281 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Usman and Shahzaib Khan put on an impressive 160-run opening partnership, with Shahzaib leading the way, scoring 159 runs off 147 balls. His knock included five boundaries and a remarkable 10 sixes, setting a new record for the most sixes in U19 ODIs.
However, after the dismissal of the opening pair, Pakistan’s batting collapsed, and only Mohammad Riaz managed to score in double figures. India’s Samarth Nagaraj claimed three Pakistani wickets during the innings.
