Former federal minister and Senator Faisal Vawda has raised concerns about the safety and mental state of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. Vawda alleged that a deliberate narrative is being built to declare the former prime minister mentally unstable.
These remarks came in response to a statement by PTI leader Qasim Khan Suri, who claimed that Imran Khan was being exposed to “poisonous substances” intended to harm his mental health. Suri had suggested that the former premier’s confinement involved spraying a toxic substance, potentially compromising his mental balance.
Accusations Against Close Aides
Vawda went further to criticize Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife, for her actions during a recent PTI protest in Islamabad. He accused her of politicizing the deaths of party workers to further her agenda.
“Bushra Bibi called for a gathering at D-Chowk but fled before reaching the venue,” he alleged. “This is nothing but a staged drama, and their intentions are now exposed before the nation.”
The senator expressed serious concerns about Khan’s safety, claiming that individuals within his circle, including Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, pose significant risks to his life. “If Imran Khan’s life is to be protected, he must be kept away from Bushra Bibi,” he asserted.
PTI’s Reaction and Health Concerns
The PTI leadership, via its official social media, demanded a transparent update on Imran Khan’s health, urging a thorough medical examination led by Dr. Aasim Yousif. The party stated that Khan is isolated from his family, denied essential medical care, and subjected to inhumane treatment, raising human rights concerns.
Vawda dismissed Suri’s claims as insignificant, labeling him a fugitive and accusing him of contributing to the narrative of Imran Khan’s mental instability. Despite internal conflicts within PTI, Vawda vowed to protect the party founder, declaring, “We value Khan’s life and will defend him at all costs.”

The senator also condemned efforts to impose governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, emphasizing that such attempts would not succeed. He criticized Gandapur for issuing threatening statements and claimed that PTI workers had confronted the chief minister during a recent protest.
