Businessman Raj Kundra, husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, has issued a firm statement defending his wife amidst the ongoing investigation into his alleged involvement in the production and distribution of pornographic content. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted multiple raids on his properties in Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh on Friday, as part of a money laundering probe linked to the case.
The raids took place at 15 locations, including Kundra’s residence and office, and reports suggest that Kundra was also questioned by the ED during the operations. However, amidst the media frenzy, Kundra clarified his stance regarding the investigations and the unnecessary association of his wife’s name with the case.
In a public statement, Kundra wrote, “To whom it may concern, while the media seems to have a flair for drama, let’s set the record straight: I’m fully complying with the ongoing investigation that has been unfolding for the last four years.” He further added, “No amount of sensationalism will cloud the truth. In the end, justice will prevail!”
He expressed frustration at the repeated dragging of his wife’s name into the matter, stating, “It’s unacceptable to repeatedly drag my wife’s name into unrelated matters. Please respect the boundaries!!!”
Shilpa Shetty’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, also issued a statement rejecting the claims that the actress had been raided by the Enforcement Directorate. He called the reports “false and misleading,” clarifying that his client had no involvement in the investigation. “As per my instructions, there has been no ED raid on Mrs. Shilpa Shetty Kundra as she has nothing to do with any offence of whatsoever nature,” Patil emphasized.
Patil urged the media to refrain from linking Shilpa’s name, images, or videos to the case, warning that “strict cognisance shall be taken against irresponsible journalism” that irresponsibly uses her image in connection with the investigation.
This ongoing investigation is just one of several legal challenges Raj Kundra has faced. Earlier this year, the ED attached assets worth ₹98 crore linked to Kundra in a separate cryptocurrency-related money laundering case. Though Shilpa Shetty was briefly involved in the case, both she and her husband later received relief from the High Court.
Details of the current case remain undisclosed, and the ED has not publicly commented on the results of Friday’s raids. Kundra has expressed his commitment to fully cooperate with the authorities and remains confident that he will be exonerated. As the situation unfolds, it continues to dominate media attention, raising questions about Kundra’s business practices.
Meanwhile, Shilpa Shetty has chosen to maintain her silence on the matter, focusing on her professional obligations, while her lawyer continues to address the media. The case has sparked wider debates on media ethics and privacy, with critics pointing out the harm caused by linking family members to legal investigations without concrete evidence. Raj Kundra’s plea to “respect boundaries” highlights the personal toll such media scrutiny can take on individuals who are not directly involved in legal matters.
