Location: Haripur, Islamabad
A convoy led by Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan set off from Haripur on Sunday, marking the beginning of a protest movement demanding the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The protest, described as a “final call,” is aimed at challenging what the opposition claims are oppressive measures taken by the federal government.
Allegations of Government Suppression
Before departing, Omar Ayub addressed his supporters, emphasizing that the government’s actions in response to the protest highlight its fear of public dissent. He pointed out that the government had cut off access to Islamabad and Rawalpindi by closing major routes and highways.
Government’s Attempt to Block Protestors
Omar Ayub further accused the government of shutting down the Motorway under the pretext of repair work in order to obstruct the protesters’ journey. Despite these challenges, he assured his supporters that the protest would continue until the PTI founder, Imran Khan, is released.
Show of Strength in Haripur and Hazara
He praised the residents of Haripur and Hazara for their enthusiastic participation, calling it a clear sign of their opposition to the federal government’s actions. He revealed that convoys from Abbottabad and Haripur would merge as they headed towards Islamabad.
Ali Amin Gandapur Joins the Protest Movement
In a show of unity, former federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who had departed from Peshawar, also joined the protest movement.
Commitment to Continued Protest
Supporters in Haripur cheered as Omar Ayub vowed to continue the protest, describing it as a stand against the “atrocities of the federal government.” He stressed that the opposition’s growing strength in Haripur and Hazara reflects a growing public dissatisfaction with the government’s policies.
