Law Enforcement Targets Protesters
Police and law enforcement agencies have launched an extensive crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and leaders in response to the party’s nationwide protests. Numerous arrests have been made as authorities enforce strict measures, including the implementation of Section 144, to maintain law and order.
Arrests in Punjab
Lahore
- PTI Punjab Information Secretary Hafiz Zeeshan and former MPA Nadeem Abbas were arrested from Lytton Road.
- At Batti Chowk, 20 workers, including 12 women, were detained during operations led by DIG Operations.
- Police intercepted a PTI convoy in Shahdara, arresting six workers.
- PTI ticket-holder Zameer Ahmed Jhedu was apprehended near the High Court.
Faisalabad
- MPA Basharat Dogar was arrested on Sargodha Road.
- 485 PTI workers were detained for stone-pelting and Section 144 violations.
Pakpattan
- Over 90 workers, including Umar Hashim, Talha Saeed, Tariq Shah, and Mehr Moin, were taken into custody.
Burewala
- Police detained 65 workers from multiple precincts, including Model Town, Gaggu Mandi, and Sahuka.
Safdarabad
- MPA Waqas Mehmood Mann was arrested during a police raid.
Chichawatni
- MNA Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan was apprehended on the Chichawatni bypass.
Multan
- Over 500 workers and leaders, including Malik Aamir Dogar and Zain Qureshi, were detained during protests.
Dera Ghazi Khan
- Authorities arrested more than 38 workers, including Sardar Mohiuddin Khosa.
Sahiwal
- Police preemptively detained 30 individuals to prevent participation in protests.
Dunyapur
- Strict enforcement of Section 144 led to the arrest of 38 individuals, with cases registered against all violators.
Gojra
- Raids on workers’ homes resulted in the arrests of MPA Asad Zaman Cheema and others, with many activists reportedly in hiding.
Arrests in Rawalpindi
- Over 110 workers were detained, and entry and exit points were blocked with containers to restrict movement.
Restrictions in Bhimbher
- All routes from Azad Kashmir to Punjab have been sealed. PTI district president Chaudhry Asif Mahmood was also arrested.
