13 Months of Conflict
The conflict between Israel and Hamas, which began with the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, has now entered its 13th month, showing no sign of slowing down. Israel’s continued military action in Gaza has led to widespread devastation and heavy casualties.
Key Hamas Leaders Targeted
In a significant development, top Hamas leaders have been killed. Ismail Haniyeh, one of Hamas’ senior leaders, was assassinated in Tehran, while Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in southern Gaza, was killed in an Israeli operation.
Israel’s Strategy and Plans
Reports suggest that Israel is working to establish buffer zones in Gaza and has no immediate intentions of slowing its military campaign. The country’s current military operations are expected to continue until the new U.S. president takes office in January 2025, a factor that may influence the pace of Israel’s actions.
Israeli Invasion of Lebanon
In addition to operations in Gaza, Israel has expanded its military actions into Lebanon, where airstrikes have resulted in over 1,550 deaths and the displacement of more than 1 million people. During this phase, Israeli forces also targeted and assassinated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and likely his successor.
Iranian Retaliation and Escalation
In response to Israel’s actions, Iran launched missile strikes on Tel Aviv. Israel retaliated by targeting military sites in Iran, further escalating the conflict in the region.
