New Cases Raise Alarm
Polio continues to pose a significant threat in Pakistan, as two new cases have been confirmed, bringing the total number of children diagnosed with polio this year to 52. The latest cases involve a one-and-a-half-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, both from the Daraz Nanda area in Dera Ismail Khan. Despite ongoing vaccination campaigns, these new cases underline the ongoing struggle to fully eradicate the virus.
Regional Distribution of Polio Cases
The spread of polio remains uneven across the country. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 13 cases, Balochistan has the highest number with 24 cases, and Sindh has reported 13 cases. Punjab and Islamabad each have documented one case so far.
Call for Enhanced Vaccination Efforts
In light of the rising cases, health authorities are urging for intensified vaccination efforts. They emphasize the need for increased community engagement and awareness to ensure vulnerable children are protected from the disease and prevent further transmission.
