General Asim Munir’s Appreciation for Gandapur
During a recent Apex Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Army Chief General Asim Munir commended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for his collaboration on national matters of importance. According to a participant of the meeting, General Munir acknowledged Gandapur’s support, particularly regarding security issues and cooperation on matters related to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Gandapur Raises Key Political Concerns
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM raised several critical issues during the meeting, including the case of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Gandapur demanded Khan’s release from jail, emphasizing that the PTI leader, who is regarded by millions as their representative, should not remain incarcerated without due cause. He also highlighted the persecution of PTI leaders and workers, noting the challenges the party faces in organizing political activities, particularly in Punjab.
Reminder of Past Political Reliefs
Gandapur reminded the committee of the political reliefs extended to PML-N leaders despite their convictions. He pointed out that Nawaz Sharif was allowed to travel to London for medical treatment while in prison, a privilege that was granted during Imran Khan’s tenure as prime minister. Additionally, he referenced the treatment of Maryam Nawaz, another convicted leader, who, after receiving relief, led anti-government protests.
Gandapur’s Loyalty to Imran Khan
The KP Chief Minister reaffirmed his loyalty to Imran Khan, stating that he remains the leader of millions. Gandapur also pointed out that the former prime minister has been incarcerated for over a year without committing any crimes. He stressed the importance of securing Khan’s release to restore political stability and justice.
Political Restrictions on PTI
Gandapur also spoke out against the restrictions imposed on PTI, including the denial of permission for political gatherings, rallies, and marches, particularly in Punjab. He underscored the difficulties faced by PTI members in carrying out their political activities due to ongoing repression.
