WASHINGTON: On Thursday, sexist remarks that he made at a campaign rally caused a storm. These remarks were the latest in a long line of lewd and sexist remarks about women made by Trump and his aides.
Trump recalled his position on abortion on Wednesday, saying, “I want to protect the women of our country… whether the women like it or not.” Women across the political spectrum, led by his rival for the White House, Kamala Harris, condemned the remarks.
Days before an election that experts say could be more gender-based than ever before, with Trump performing strongly among male voters, the Democratic vice president referred to the statement as “very offensive to women.”
The 78-year-old billionaire has been criticized before for how he treats women, and his most recent remarks are not even the most offensive.
When a video of Trump boasting that he used his celebrity to “grab women” surfaced just days before his election matchup with Hillary Clinton in 2016, there was widespread outrage.
The property tycoon went on to defeat Clinton despite public outcry.
The Republican sought to project an image of strength for his third presidential campaign, again against a woman after losing to Joe Biden in 2020.
Donald Trump has referred to Kamala Harris as “mentally retarded” and “crazy” throughout the campaign, implying that if elected, she would become “a play toy” for other world leaders. He has also made fun of her loud laugh.
He has made the claim on his Truth Social platform that Kamala, a former senator, owed her professional success to sexual favors.
