ISLAMABAD: The Adiala Jail administration was given a Thursday directive by Justice Arbab Mohammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to comply with the jail manual and provide former Prime Minister Imran Khan with all facilities in accordance with regulations.
On the petition of Noreen Niazi, the jailed leader’s sister, the court granted the directions.
In order to respond to the petition’s questions, senior jail officials, including DIG Prisons Abdul Rauf and deputy superintendent of Adiala Jail, appeared before the court.
DIG Rauf assured the court that the founding PTI chairman was being accommodated in accordance with prison regulations and that family meetings with him had resumed.
Additionally, the court was informed by the deputy superintendent that all permitted facilities were accessible.
The PTI leader’s lawyer, Shoaib Shaheen, argued that essential amenities like the client’s choice of newspapers and consistent phone contact with the family had not always been provided.
He asked the court to make sure visitation rights didn’t change.
Justice Tahir inquired as to whether or not these amenities were included in the jail manual, to which the authorities responded that they were. The judge warned the authorities against any lapses and instructed them to provide the former premier with all facilities outlined in the jail regulations.
The court ruled that these facilities must continue, believing that doing so would help protect detainee rights.
Swati’s remand In a separate case, an IHC bench led by Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb and Justice Arbab Mohammad Tahir overturned the trial court’s order requiring PTI leader Azam Swati to be physically remanded in a terrorism case.
Mr. Swati was ordered to be taken into judicial custody by the court.
Justice Aurangzeb questioned the justification for issuing multiple remands, pointing out that physical remand should be minimized and adequately justified.
The court read ATC Judge Abul Hasnat’s report, which made it clear that all cases’ records had been requested to streamline the process. The report was deemed satisfactory by the court.
A day earlier, Justice Aurangzeb made some negative remarks and expressed displeasure with Judge Abul Hasnat’s behavior. Nevertheless, after reading his report, the IHC judge stated that his rage was inappropriate.
