During the beauty pageant competition Miss Grand International 2024, which took place last week in Bangkok, contestants from India and Pakistan formed a strong bond.
The winner of the competition, Punjab’s Jalandhar Rachel Gupta, wrote a touching letter to her “Punjabi sister,” Roma, to express her love for her.
India’s Rachel Gupta wrote, “Borders may keep us apart, but they cannot separate the bond we share.”
Rachel wrote in an Instagram post: Roma, when I think of your bravery and grace, my pride soars. It has been a blessing to compete with you, like finding a new home away from home.
I am so proud of everything you have accomplished on your own, your kindness, your perseverance, and your hard work have served as a role model for everyone.
We may be separated by borders, but our connection cannot be broken. You will always have a friend in me and a home in India because we share the same blood.
Roma, you are not alone, so keep your head up. Because what divides us is not greater than what unites us, we are stronger as a group!
Pakistan and India have a complicated relationship, but the love they have for one another transcends all boundaries.
Miss Grand International, a center for creativity and entertainment, is a global beauty contest with the mission of promoting human understanding and preventing war and violence.
Every three years, a new “Golden Crown,” made of gold and brass and adorned with diamonds and emeralds, is presented to the winner.
