Pakistan :
According to rescue officials, a passenger bus slid off the Hazara Expressway in the Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday morning, causing at least four deaths and three injuries.
Amir Khadam, a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, told Dawn.com that the passenger bus was traveling from Gilgit toward Rawalpindi at the time of the accident.
He stated that the King Abdullah Hospital in Mansehra was used to transport the deceased and injured.
He stated, “The incident occurred as a result of heavy rain, which caused the coaster to slip and skid off the road.”
Khadam went on to say that the injured and deceased were from Gilgit and Kohistan.
After a heavy snowfall on Monday night, the Mansehra district administration also halted traffic on Naran-Babusar Road.
Ghulam Abbas, deputy director of the National Highway Authority, disclosed to Dawn.com that the Karakoram Highway (KKH) had been reopened for all types of traffic despite being blocked at two locations in Kohistan.
The northern regions of KP and Gilgit Baltistan were hit hard by heavy rain and strong winds, and snow fell at high altitude, making the weather cold.
KP and the northern regions have a lot of road accidents, which are made worse by bad weather, rough terrain, poorly maintained roads, overloaded vehicles, and little traffic control. These areas are particularly prone to accidents because of the narrow, winding roads and driver fatigue.
A passenger bus traveling to Rawalpindi collided with a ravine in the Upper Kohistan area of KP yesterday, resulting in the deaths of two people and the injuries of 36 others.
