SYDNEY: Australia’s Test players were left out of their home T20 series against Pakistan on Monday, and a new captain is expected to be named.
The three-match T20 series next month will come to an end just four days before Australia plays India in the first of five home Tests.
The fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, as well as other Test players Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, were put on rest by the selectors.
Everything rounder Cameron Green is harmed and will miss the whole Australian summer.
Marsh is usually the T20 captain, so Josh Inglis, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, and Matt Short could take over for Pakistan.
After suffering injuries, fast bowlers Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Spencer Johnson will all play in Brisbane on November 14, Sydney on November 2, and Hobart on November 18.
Chief selector George Bailey stated, “This group of players have all represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we look forward to them continuing to enhance their international experience.”
Bailey added, “I think there’s a number of players with the ability to captain, and some that have had some captaincy experience as well,” and stated that the captain would be named closer to the series opener.
The three-match ODI series against Pakistan, which began on November 4, will be followed by the T20s.
Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood were all part of the one-day team that was announced two weeks ago.
T20 team: Cooper Connolly, Cooper Abbott, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa are the other members of this group.
