KARACHI: Three men held for allegedly assaulting women during a dispute at a Defence Housing Authority restaurant on Sunday were granted bail by a judicial magistrate on Monday.
The fight between two families became so popular on social media that the police had to step in.
According to Pakistan’s Penal Code sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 337-A (punishment of shajjah), and 34 (common intention), the Darakhshan police filed an FIR on the complaint of Shahid Lashari Baloch against Amir, Khalid Ahmed, and Malik Subhan.
The suspects were presented by Investigating Officer Muhammad Akram to Judicial Magistrate (South) Mazhar Ali.
Aamir Nawaz Warraich, president of the Karachi Bar Association, and Ikhtiar Ali Channah, general secretary, attempted to mediate a settlement between the parties before the hearing. After the suspects indicated that they would be willing to present an apology in court regarding the incident, both parties ultimately agreed to settle the matter.
In the meantime, the defense attorney filed a bail application for his clients in court.
The court granted the three suspects bail with a surety bond of Rs30,000 each after hearing from their attorneys.
The complainant informed the police that on Sunday, he and his family went to a DHA restaurant for dinner. There, a verbal argument erupted between his sister-in-law and an unidentified woman over the use of a few chairs, which led to a physical assault on his family members.
