Apple’s major push into generative AI was marked by the introduction of its first set of artificial intelligence features, dubbed “Apple Intelligence,” to its premium iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices on Monday.
Apple enters the AI race with this release, which was first shown off by the company in June. The US tech giants have rushed into technology similar to ChatGPT.
In order not to fall behind, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple have increased their spending because they are convinced that the capabilities of generative AI are the next phase of computing.
In a blog post, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated, “Apple Intelligence is generative AI in a way that only Apple can deliver, and we’re incredibly excited about its ability to enrich our users’ lives.”
A more conversational Siri virtual assistant, enhanced photo searching capabilities, and enhanced writing tools are among Apple’s new features. Additionally, by December, the company intends to incorporate ChatGPT’s capabilities into its services.
The capacity to generate custom emoji and produce images from text descriptions are among the additional features that are anticipated to launch in December.
The features are primarily restricted to the most recent iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers.
Apple Intelligence’s capabilities are currently only available in US English. The upcoming year will see the release of versions in a variety of languages, including Korean, French, German, Italian, and Chinese.
Due to “regulatory uncertainties” associated with new laws, Apple had postponed the launch of Apple Intelligence in the European Union at the launch event in June.
It now stated that, beginning in April, the majority of offerings will be made available on iPhones and iPads and Mac computers in English from the United States. System-wide writing tools that can rewrite and proofread text and the ability to remove unwanted objects from images are two additional Apple Intelligence features.
Overall, the features are comparable to tools that Meta, Microsoft, and Google recently released.
The company said that its technology prioritizes user privacy by keeping processing on-device or by using a new “Private Cloud” system, despite concerns about the safety of AI models.
The company claims that by doing this, personal data will remain within the Apple ecosystem, which prioritizes data privacy.
On Monday, Apple also unveiled the iMac, a brand-new desktop computer with Apple Intelligence.
