After a disappointing start to the season, Manchester United announced on Monday that manager Erik ten Hag had been fired.
After suffering their fourth defeat in nine league games at West Ham on Sunday, United fell to 14th place in the table, and they have only won one of their last eight matches in all competitions.
A club statement stated, “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.”
“Erik was hired in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
We appreciate Erik for everything he has done for us and wish him well in the future.
While a permanent head coach is found, “Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team.”
Ten Hag, a Dutch manager, had overseen United’s worst start to an English Premier League campaign since 1989/90, even before West Ham’s defeat.
