Fans of Titanic will be forced to reevaluate everything they thought they knew about the infamous “door” scene as a result of Kate Winslet’s recent revelation.
The 49-year-old Oscar-winning actress clarified that the iconic floating object was not actually a door while promoting her role as Lee on Australia’s The Project.
Winslet commented, “I will say that’s really interesting is people keep referring to it as a door,” when the question was posed once more. In fact, there was no door at all.”
Winslet revealed that it was, in fact, a ship’s broken bannister, “like a stairway or something.”
Winslet shrugged when asked if she and Jack, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, could have worked together. She said, “Honestly, I don’t have any insights here that anyone else hasn’t already tried to figure out.”
Since Titanic’s 1997 debut, fans have debated whether Jack would have been able to survive on the improvised raft. In the past, numerous online detectives have concluded that the debris was not at all a door.
In order to settle the dispute, director James Cameron even commissioned a scientific test and recreated the scene to see if both characters could have fit. His conclusion? He shared, explaining that Jack’s decision was, “I’m not gonna do one thing that jeopardizes her.” “Jack might have lived, but there are a lot of variables,” he said.
