Berlin (AFP): The European Association on Saturday required all gatherings to practice most extreme restriction to keep away from an “wild acceleration” in the Center East, after Israel did lethal air strikes in Iran.
In the past, Israel claimed that its warplanes carried out raids on Iranian military facilities in response to a barrage of missiles, further inflaming fears of a full-scale regional conflict.
The EU issued a statement that read, “The dangerous cycle of attacks and retaliations risks causing a further expansion of the regional conflict.”
“The EU calls on all parties to exercise utmost restraint to avoid an uncontrollable escalation, which is in no one’s interest, while acknowledging Israel’s right to self-defence.”
After the Israeli military said that the strikes hit Iranian missile factories and military facilities in several regions and killed two soldiers, Iran said it would defend itself.
Israel, on the other hand, warned that Iran would “pay a heavy price” if it responded to the strikes, which it claimed were in retaliation for Iran’s missile attack on October 1 that saw the country launch approximately 200 ballistic missiles at Israel.
The strikes occurred amid “severe and growing regional tensions,” according to the EU’s call for calm.
According to the 27-nation bloc, “The EU remains fully committed to lowering tensions and contributing to de-escalation” and “remains in close contact with all relevant actors” to achieve this goal.
