Pakistan: In a “suicide bombing” in North Waziristan, at least six people were killed, including four police officers, and several others were injured, according to police on Saturday.
The police claimed that a police post in Mir Ali’s Eidak neighborhood was the target of the attack. They added that four of the victims were police officers.
After a rescue operation was launched, the injured were moved to a hospital. The security personnel erected a perimeter around the area in the interim.
Since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021, terrorism has increased in Pakistan. The provinces bordering the neighboring nation, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, report the majority of terror incidents.
This month, security forces in KP’s District North Waziristan eliminated approximately a dozen militants during anti-terrorism operations. The military is working to combat terrorism in the country.
According to a report that was released earlier this month by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the third quarter of 2024 saw a 90 percent increase in violence in the country and a sharp increase in the number of terrorist-related deaths.
Seventy-two people, including civilians, security personnel, and criminals, were killed in the three quarters of this year, surpassing 2023’s total.
The highest percentage in a decade was nearly 97%, with KP and Balochistan accounting for the remainder.
According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, the country experienced more suicide attacks in 2015 than in any year since 2014.
In Pakistan’s deadliest year in a decade, 29 suicide attacks were recorded, resulting in the deaths of 329 people.
