ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Thursday consistently passed a bill for foundation of exceptional courts to choose property-related instances of abroad Pakistanis.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, proposed the Establishment of Special Courts Bill. He stated that the cases would be decided by special courts within 90 days, and foreign Pakistanis will be able to submit complaints online.
The bill was praised by a number of House members, who noted that overseas Pakistanis had long demanded it.
The bill was praised by Senator Irfan Siddiqui, who referred to overseas Pakistanis as a valuable asset. He stated that the monthly remittances from Pakistanis living abroad have reached a record high of three billion dollars.
Cases involving property will be decided within 90 days. The Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb-sponsored Deposit Protection Corporation amendment bill was also approved by the Senate.
The minister stated that this would strengthen the bank resolution and recovery system and that it was intended to maintain financial system stability.
He remarked, “This is basically to deal with non-viable banks so that tax payers’ money is not needed for bank resolution except in extreme cases.”
He stated that the deposit insurance agency’s funds can be utilized to provide financial assistance.
A resolution commending the government for successfully hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit was passed by the upper house.
