As police used tear gas to disperse students protesting the alleged rape of a Lahore student, at least 250 violent protesters were detained in Rawalpindi.
A security guard at the private college who was allegedly involved in the incident was arrested by the police last week after reports about the alleged rape of a student went viral on social media.
Rankled by the supposed episode, understudies prepared via web-based entertainment and organized fights outside various schools in Lahore throughout recent days. Conflicts with college and police security guards resulted in 28 injuries on Monday.
Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab, has stated that the alleged rape was “fabricated news,” putting the blame for the “fake reports” on social media on the PTI. The incident has been described as “baseless” by Agha Tahir, director of the Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC), and other officeholders.
Today, in an interview with Dawn.com, Operation Hafiz Kamran Asghar, a senior superintendent of police in Rawalpindi, stated that approximately 150 “violent protesters” had been detained and that the situation was now completely under control.
SSP Asghar stated that while the police did not want to arrest students, they would pursue legal action against anyone who attempted to violate the law under the guise of protests.
The SSP said, “All the angles of the protest are being investigated,” and he added that a large number of police have been stationed on major roads outside of colleges in various parts of the city.
